Dental Pain Needs
Prompt Attention
Dental emergencies range from a knocked-out tooth that requires immediate action to a severe toothache that makes eating and sleeping impossible. Whatever the situation, delaying care almost always makes the outcome worse and the treatment more involved.
At Edgemont Dental, we reserve time in our schedule every single day for urgent cases. Our goal is simple: get you out of pain as quickly as possible, then address the underlying cause with a clear, honest treatment plan.
Common Dental
Emergencies
Severe Toothache
Persistent, intense tooth pain that disrupts sleep or daily life is never normal. It often signals infection, nerve damage, or a cracked tooth that needs immediate attention.
Knocked-Out Tooth
Time is critical — a tooth knocked out cleanly can often be re-implanted if you reach us within 30–60 minutes. Keep it moist in milk or saliva and call us immediately.
Dental Abscess
A dental abscess is a serious bacterial infection that can spread rapidly. Symptoms include throbbing pain, swelling, fever, and a bad taste. This requires urgent treatment.

End the Pain
When infection or inflammation reaches the soft tissue (pulp) inside a tooth — usually from deep decay, a crack, or trauma — a root canal removes the source of the pain and saves the natural tooth from extraction.
Root canals have an unfair reputation. With modern techniques and anaesthetics, most patients are surprised by how comfortable and straightforward the procedure is.
- Severe, persistent toothache
- Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold
- Pain when biting or chewing
- Swelling or a gum abscess near the tooth

When a Tooth
Needs to Come Out
Wisdom teeth (third molars) often don't have room to erupt properly, leading to impaction, recurring infection, or crowding of your other teeth. We also extract teeth that are too damaged or decayed to restore.
Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out, but when symptoms arise or your x-rays show future problems, early removal is almost always easier and safer than waiting.
- Impaction — a tooth trapped beneath the gumline
- Recurring infection around a partially erupted tooth
- Crowding of neighbouring teeth
- A tooth too decayed or damaged to save

Fast, Local Care
When It Hurts
Dental emergencies rarely happen on a convenient schedule. That's why we hold same-day slots open every day we're open, so a toothache that started this morning doesn't have to wait until next week to get looked at.
Our team at Lessard Road knows Southwest Edmonton traffic and how far patients are driving to reach us, so when you call, we're already thinking about how fast we can get you in the chair.
