Extractions &
Wisdom Teeth

Comfortable, precise tooth removal and wisdom tooth extractions — addressing pain, crowding, and infection before they become more serious problems.

Third Molar Removal

Why Wisdom Teeth
Often Need Removing

Wisdom teeth (third molars) typically emerge between ages 17–25 — often there's simply not enough room in the jaw for them. This leads to impaction (teeth stuck below the gumline), crowding of existing teeth, recurring infection, and pain.

Not all wisdom teeth need removal, but when symptoms arise or your x-rays show future problems, early removal is almost always easier and safer than waiting.

  • Pain or swelling in the back of the jaw
  • Recurring infection or gum swelling around a partially erupted tooth
  • Crowding of adjacent teeth
  • Damage to the neighbouring tooth
  • Cavities forming in hard-to-clean partially erupted teeth
  • Cyst development around an impacted tooth

When to Act

Three Clear Reasons
To Remove Wisdom Teeth

Impaction

Teeth completely or partially trapped beneath the gumline — unable to erupt normally. Almost always requires removal.

Infection (Pericoronitis)

Partially erupted wisdom teeth are very difficult to clean and prone to recurring infection. Removal eliminates the risk permanently.

Crowding

Pressure from emerging wisdom teeth can shift your existing teeth — particularly if you've had orthodontic treatment.

The Procedure

What to Expect
Step by Step

01

Assessment & X-Rays

Panoramic or 3D x-rays confirm the position of your wisdom teeth and help plan the extraction with precision.

02

Anaesthesia

Local anaesthetic is applied. Sedation is available if preferred or for complex cases — we ensure you are completely comfortable before we begin.

03

Extraction

Simple extractions involve gentle rocking and removal. Surgical extractions (impacted teeth) involve a small incision to access the tooth beneath the gumline.

04

Post-Extraction Care

Gauze, ice pack advice, dietary guidelines, and follow-up instructions provided. Most patients are comfortable within 3–5 days.

Patient FAQs

Common Questions

Do all wisdom teeth need to come out?

No. Fully erupted, functional wisdom teeth that can be properly cleaned may be monitored rather than removed. We make recommendations based on your specific x-rays and symptoms — never as a blanket policy.

Will I be awake during the extraction?

For most extractions, yes — you're awake but completely numb. Nitrous oxide or oral sedation is available for anxious patients.

How long is the recovery?

Most patients feel back to normal within 3–5 days. Soft foods, ice packs, and rest are the main recommendations. Dry socket (a complication) affects a small percentage of patients and is treated easily if it occurs.
