Making Dental Visits
Positive for Life
Children who have positive early dental experiences grow into adults who take care of their teeth. That's the philosophy behind everything we do in pediatric dentistry at Edgemont Dental.
Dr. Nicole L'Heureux has a particular passion for caring for young patients — her gentle, patient approach and love of children is evident from the moment they walk in. Our whole team is trained to work with kids at every stage of development.
We welcome children of all ages — from babies cutting their first tooth to teenagers managing braces. Your whole family, under one roof.

Everything Your
Child Needs
First Visit by Age 1
The Canadian Dental Association recommends a child's first dental visit within six months of the first tooth. Early visits build familiarity, trust, and healthy habits.
Checkups & Cleanings
Regular six-month appointments to monitor tooth development, catch cavities early, and keep young smiles sparkling clean.
Sealants & Fluoride
Protective sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth — sealing out the bacteria and food particles that cause decay. Fluoride treatments strengthen enamel.
Space Maintainers
If a baby tooth is lost too early, a space maintainer preserves room for the permanent tooth — preventing crowding and alignment issues down the line.
Fillings & Restorations
Tooth-coloured composite fillings that blend in naturally and restore the function and appearance of teeth affected by cavities.
Emergency Care
Kids have accidents. From chipped teeth to knocked-out baby teeth — we handle pediatric dental emergencies quickly and gently.

Gentle Starts for
Little Smiles
A child's first dental visits set the tone for how they feel about the dentist for the rest of their life. We keep those early appointments short, calm, and genuinely kid-friendly, because a good first experience matters more than a perfect one.
Many of our youngest patients grow up alongside our own kids, at the same schools and the same community events across Southwest Edmonton. That's not a coincidence. It's part of why parents trust us with their children's care.
What to Expect
01
A Gentle Introduction
We give your child a tour of the clinic, show them our tools in a fun, non-threatening way, and let them sit in the chair at their own pace.
02
The First Exam
A gentle exam, a count of their teeth, and a cleaning tailored to their age and comfort level. No pressure, no rush.
03
Preventive Treatments
Fluoride applications and sealants as age-appropriate — short, comfortable procedures that dramatically reduce the risk of cavities.
04
Building Good Habits
We teach brushing and flossing techniques in a way that sticks. Kids leave knowing how to care for their teeth at home.
Common Questions
When should my child first see a dentist?
The Canadian Dental Association recommends a first dental visit within six months of the first tooth erupting, or by age one — whichever comes first. Starting early builds positive associations and lets us monitor development from the beginning.
My child is nervous about the dentist. How do you handle that?
We specialise in making anxious children comfortable. Our approach is gentle, unhurried, and child-focused. We use the tell-show-do method — explain first, demonstrate on a model, then do the procedure. We also offer nitrous oxide sedation for children who need extra support.
Are baby teeth really that important?
Absolutely. Baby teeth hold space for permanent teeth, aid in speech development, and help children chew properly. Untreated decay in baby teeth can affect the development of permanent teeth and cause pain that impacts eating and concentration at school.
